The new world of high definition television offers a stunning visual experience in the history of entertainment unprecedented. But this experience has its price, and not just the price in dollars: it also requires that you time for learning about the technology to make the purchase right. One of the first areas of study is the difference between the four major types of HDTV Display: plasma, LCD, DLP and CRT.

Plasma

Most people associate the word "plasma"with HDTV in general. This is somewhat vague because plasma technology is more effective in large display and great views are generally high-definition. A plasma display is built with two panes of glass, mounted very close together. Between the windows is a grid of tiny cells, all with a special type of gas. When the computer sends the TV signal power to a particular cell, it glows like a neon sign and forms a small part of the picture.
